about David
I am an Integrative Psychotherapist and pre-accredited member of the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (M15291).
I maintain a small private practice with a special interest in long-term work aimed at facilitating personality growth and change, drawing on an integrative person-centred, psychodynamic approach. You can read about my approach in more detail on the “psychotherapy explained” page.
In accordance with the IACP Code of Ethics, I attend regular, rigorous clinical supervision. Additionally, I consider a therapist’s own personal therapy to be a cornerstone of effective therapeutic practice and as such attend weekly personal analysis.
I adhere to a scholar-practitioner model, which means I am also an academic author. A revised edition of my BSc dissertation was published in the the peer-reviewed journal, Psychodynamic Practice, titled Black Mirroring and the Paranoid-Schizoid Simulacrum: Scrolling as a Defense against the Depressive Position. In the article, I propose a psychodynamic model to understand the phenomenon of compulsive scrolling.
To deepen my psychoanalytic theoretical and clinical understanding, I am commencing a MSc in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at Trinity College Dublin in September 2025.
Finally, I serve as the PCI Counselling Service Co-Ordinator. In this role, I ensure the referral pathway between clients and trainee therapists runs smoothly, conducting screening assessments to determine whether or not prospective clients are suitable for the service. Furthermore, I support the work and development of over 150 trainee therapists across the country as they provide counselling and psychotherapy to hundreds of clients.
